Since its establishment, the primary goal of the EU has been to ensure the free movement of goods and services. The single internal market was introduced in 1993, meaning that once certain goods are approved under applicable EU regulations, they can be traded without needing further approval. This also applies to vehicles. In the past, vehicles were approved by individual EU Member States. However, new legislation (92/53/EEC, 2007/46/EC) was introduced, establishing a single European procedure (“European single vehicle approval”) to replace the national approval systems of Member States. European legislation now sets technical requirements for all new vehicles to facilitate their registration, sale, and entry into service within the EU. The most significant benefit of European type-approval is the elimination of the need for multiple approvals, along with the establishment of uniform requirements for a high level of safety and environmental protection. The Certificate of Conformity serves as proof that a vehicle meets all the requirements set by EU regulations.
